My name is Akshita Singh and I am an 18 year old college student at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia. I was raised in Buffalo Grove, Illinois where I spent my childhood exploring the forest behind my neighborhood and reading books well into the night with a flashlight under my blankets. When I am not reading, I like to visit museums, advocate for intercultural empowerment and respect, and volunteer. I am a very curious person and am always looking for a new topic to divulge in. Currently, I have been very interested in learning about healthcare disparities around the world. I am also interested in topics related to the importance of voting and increasing the percentage of people from ages 18-25 that participate in politics. At Agnes Scott, I plan on double majoring in Political Science and Public Health with a minor in Human Rights. I have always been passionate about helping people through the use of medicine, which is why I plan on majoring in public health. Additionally, by observing part of the Iowa Caucus in person in 2019 for the primary presidential election, I was able to see firsthand how politics shapes lives. This led me to my love for politics, which is why I plan on majoring in political science. With the knowledge I gain, I hope that one day I will be able to help people around the world as a public health analyst by shaping policies to improve the health of populations.
